About Unbound Psyche
Psychology for understanding yourself and the people around you
Unbound Psyche explores a deceptively simple question: Why do people do what they do?
Why do we repeat patterns we know aren’t good for us? Why do certain people affect us so strongly? Why do we stay, withdraw, people-please, avoid, obsess, sabotage, or react in ways we understand intellectually but still struggle to change?
And just as importantly: once we understand why, what do we do with that knowledge?
My work explores relationships, attachment, narcissistic dynamics, childhood experiences, behavioral patterns, trauma, and personal agency. The aim isn’t to find a psychological label for everything that happens to us. It’s to understand the forces shaping our behavior clearly enough to make better choices.
About Emma Brame
I’m Emma Brame, an author and behavioral researcher with formal education in psychology.
My work combines academic study with years of independent research and writing on relationships, attachment, narcissistic dynamics, childhood trauma, behavioral patterns, and personal agency.
I’m the author of Red Flags in Relationships, Narcissist: The Toxic Attraction, and Healing Childhood Trauma. I’m also working on a book exploring personal agency: the boundary between what shapes us, what remains outside our control, and what we can choose to do differently.
My perspective is also informed by lived experience and years of personal psychological work. But lived experience isn’t a substitute for evidence. I use it as context, not as proof.
My Approach
Psychology can be extraordinarily useful for understanding ourselves. It can also become another way of putting ourselves — and everyone around us — into convenient little boxes.
Not every difficult person is a narcissist. Not every uncomfortable emotion is trauma. Not every confusing relationship can be explained by attachment style. And discovering where a behavioral pattern came from doesn’t mean we’re condemned to keep repeating it.
I believe understanding our history matters. But understanding why we developed a pattern matters most when it helps us decide what to do next.
That’s where agency comes in.
We don’t choose everything that shapes us. We do have choices about what we do with it.
Understand the pattern. See your choices. Decide what happens next.
